- Will an updated router firmware really help download speeds?
- Posted by Theodore Baldwin Boothe III on December 15th, 2005
I was told, by giganews, that one of the ways I could increase the
speed of text and binary downloads was to update the router's
firmware.
The problem I am having is when I doubleclick on an article it
sometimes starts to download the article immediately BUT 50% of the
time it just sits there, from 5 to 15 seconds, before even starting to
download the article.
I wanted to know if a firmware update would 'really' improve / fix
this problem?
It only started about 4-6 weeks ago and seems to be getting worse by
the week.
Thanks.

It certainly won't help if the router is not the slow piece. There are many
many pieces of hardware between your computer and the computer which
contains the article. Any one or more of them could be the cause.

The best place to get that answer is the router manufacturer.
Check their website to see if there is a firmware update.
Also there should be something stating exactly what the update is supposed
to change.
