Windows update constant errors

It seems that since october 05 i have been unable to update my windows XP.
The last error message was 0x80246008 and i can't seem to find it anywere.

Also, since last week i get tons of pop ups (1 every minute) which is really
anoying and slows down my computer.

pls help on the updates,

txs Ricky, i did all of it until i reached:

Windows could not start the Background Intelligent Transfer service on the
local computer. For more information review the system event log. If this is
a non-Microsoft service contact the service vendor and refer to
service-specific error code -2147024894. (0x80070002)
If you receive this error message, follow these steps:
1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
2. Locate the following registry subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\BackupRestore\FilesNotToBackup

....

i was stuck there, the black window appears, then disappears and it seems i
can't write anything.
