- Windows XP & Formatting New Drive 80GB W/NTFS
- Posted by Robert J. Stevens on October 17th, 2005
I am trying to install a new 80GB drive in a Sony Pentium III. I started
on saturday morning and XP says drive was unformatted and created a
76Gig Partition and began Formatting for NTFS. It is only at 22% this
morning. bout 48 Hours so far. At this rate it will take 6 More Days.
Is this Normal ???

Virtually all retail drives sold in the U.S. come with complete instructions
for setting up the drive, including a CD containing all the software you
need to get going. When following the manufacturer's instructions,
formatting the drive takes just minutes.
These instructions and software are also available on the manufacturer's web
site.

Ted;
Problem is I didn't buy the DISK. The lady I am helping got it of E-Bay and they
didn't include an Installation CD. Is there an Independant Formatter Available
that will fit on a 1.44 floppy or Can I find a CD that will format NTFS Faster
than what XP is doing now
TIA

Funny how web sites seem to act up just when you really need them. Must be
an 'anxiety sensor' coded into the HTML. <g>

Ted;
Found This at Toshiba
Disk Manager
Looking for Disk Manager? Disk Manager is no longer available for download on
our site, because systems with Windows XP and 2000 don't require it.
So Where next???
Been seaching with WebFerret

I got it DONE. Seems the Drive is Bonkers. I finally ran IBM's DFT after I
loaded XP which took forever and wouldn't display the Icons. It says there's
a problem so Back it GOES
Reverted the PUTER Back to the 2GIG drive that was in it and resized the
PAGEFILE and dropped HIBERNATION which gave me room to install the other
programs needed.
Thanks for all the Input and Help
