- wininit.ini problem
- Posted by dgkusch on October 11th, 2005
When I run both Microsoft AntiSpyware to do a full system scan and Spyware
Blaster, they both get hung when coming to the file c:\windows\wininit.ini.
I tried replacing this file, renaming it, deleting it, and always get the
message, "Cannot rename wininit: data error (cyclic redundancy check)" or
something similar. I cannot open it with notepad. Then I get the message,
"Data error (cyclic redundancy check)."
What is going on, and what's the solution?
Thanks.

It means the file is corrupted on disk. Make a backup and Type
chkdsk c: /f
This file is not used in XP.
