- WinXP Home Slow Shutdown
- Posted by JE on April 24th, 2006
We have a pc that all at once it can take up to 6 minutes to shutdown. If
you shutdown after the machine has been on for 10 or 15 munutes, it shuts
down without any problems. If you leave it on any longer, it won't shutdown
in a short time. I have defraged, don't allow drives to turn off, hibernate
is off, pre-fetch directory cleaned out, ran a scan, cleared history, just
about all I can think of. Stopped programs in the Startup through msconfig.
Really has me buffaloed.

Sorry, I have no solution. But same thing happens with my laptop (WinXp Home
Sp2).
If I shutdown within 3/4 hours its fine.
If I keep it to run overnight, the next morning, it just fail to shutdown,
and I had to restart it forcefully, by disconnecting power.
No clues what the time factor does!
