XP Pro SP2 won't complete boot...
Posted by puzzled186 on October 27th, 2005

I've been running XP PRO SP2 for some time now (another machine). Now
when I try to boot it goes through all the steps but won't complete.
I get the hourglass cursor showing up in the taskbar. I can't click
on any on the destop. Can't click on anything from Start button.

I tried Safe mode (both with and w/o Networking) and I get the same
effects... cursor busy in taskbar, and no response from desktop or
Start button. I did a ctrl-alt-del and looked at processes... 98%
it's running the idle then 2% tskmgr.

I know the mouse is working (moves around and I can click on things
after ctl-alt-del) and the keyboard's working (I can enter password).

HELP!! Any suggestions?

Thnx

I have the same exact problem, I have tried a system restore, repair
installtion, and still the same problem. I will keep you posted if I find a
fix.

Update... I thought I'd try booting from XP CDROM. When I put the
cdrom in, it didn't boot from it. OK, maybe the cdrom isn't the first
thing in the boot sequence. So I rebooted holding down F2 to go into
setup. Ignores F2. Tried that several times. Booted holding down
F11 so it'd go into Boot Menu... ignored.

How can I get it to boot from CDROM?

Urghhhhhhh

What is the make and model of the computer?

You could take a look at:- http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_abc.htm
scroll down to BIOS commands and see if your machine is listed there
for the correct key to get into the BIOS.
