Error upgrading from Office 2003 to Office 2007
Posted by Luca on August 28th, 2007

Hi.
I'm upgrading PCs from Office 2003 to Office 2007. So I created by "Office
Customization Tool" an MSP file to configure and deploy Office 2007
automatically.
The upgrade works fine but I get an error on some machines.
By checking installation log file under user temp folder, I see this:

MSI(TERMINATE): '(null)'
Error: Failed to install product: C:\MSOCache\All
Users\{90120000-006E-0410-0000-0000000FF1CE}-C\OfficeMUI.msi ErrorCode:
1603(0x643).
Rolling back chain
08/28/2007 14:51:23 Rolling back package: OfficeMUI.it-it
There appears to be no rollback work to do for package: OfficeMUI.it-it
path: C:\MSOCache\All
Users\{90120000-006E-0410-0000-0000000FF1CE}-C\OfficeMUI.msi
Stopping running ose

So I'm seeing the problem is on Officemui.msi package...isn't if ?!? Infact
if I try to launch that package separately I get an error.
I tried also to remove manually Office 2007 installation files and registry
settings by following steps written on Microsoft KB928218 and tried to
re-install Office 2007 but I get the same error.

Thank you.

Bye, Luca

How many computers are you trying to install to. Checked your MSP file. Why not deploy via GPO

Hi Peter.
I'm sorry but I think that if I tried your solution I got the same error.
However I found the solution to my problem:

delete the file "Rgstrtn.lck" under "%allusersprofile%\Application
Data\Microsoft Help" folder....it worked.

Thank you Peter.

Bye, Luca
