How do I keep my documents private in microsoft office word
Posted by Confused on July 6th, 2008

I am using Microsoft office word 2003 and I write a lot on my thoughts and my
life, now I would like to keep this files or doucments totally private, in
the sense if anyone else access my computer I dont want them to find what I
am writing, so I would like to make it totally private by putting it under
password,so that now no one else can access my documents. How do I go about
doing that. Please advise.

Setup your own Windows User Account and password protect it.

In addition to what Carey quoted, in Word 2003, and other versions of Word,
you can password protect for opening a document. Click File, SaveAs and
then Tools, Security Options and put in a strong password in Password to
open:. While this is not 100% foolproof, most individuals will never break
the password to open the document. It does take some effort to break Word's
password protection.

In addition to the other suggestions, you can buy a little USB drive.
They are cheep, small enough to stick in your pocket and if you secure the
device you data is secure. You can use it on almost any modern computer.
