Office 2007 Enterprise Install Problem
Posted by lrdchivalry on January 9th, 2008

I received office 2007 enterprise through the home use program and when I try
and install I get the following message

The browse for folder window opens and it states a particular .cab cannot be
found and instructs me to find a valid install source and click ok. I have
clicked on the folder that has the file but it keeps stating invalid source..
I am running windows xp pro sp2. Any help is appreciated

I have even tried what others suggested by opying the files to my hard drive
and installing that way, no luck.

A Knowledge Base search comes up with an article that might help:

Do you have an earlier version of Office installed?

I am currently using office xp standard for students and teachers. I have
tried uninstalling office xp and installing enterprise but no luck.

You didn't confirm if the error you received had a number; would you post
the exact error message?

Do you have your installation CD for Office XP?

If so, I would try this:

1. Uninstall all Office XP (and previous) versions. Check the Control Panel
to see what else is there.

2. Run the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility, and remove references to
Office XP in the registry (and any earlier versions of Office). You can find
it here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301/en-us

3. Reboot your PC, then try the Office 2007 installation again.

4. If that doesn't work, you may need to contact Product Support to get help
with installation (unless someone else posts here with other suggestions).

You might also try using a different drive if you have one, or copying the
CD to your hard drive to install, in case you feel that the CD itself might
be damaged.

Sorry about that.. When I try and install the program the browse for folder
window opens and it states it cannot find a particular .cab file and to
select a source folder for the file. When I try and select the folder
containing the file it woul state it was an invalid source. I cannot proceed
from there.

You did mention that, but not if the error had a number, or the exact error
message. It sometimes helps to have the exact error messgae along with any
number associated with it ("Error 1311", for example), because you can then
search the Microsoft Knowledge Base, or newsgroups, for that exact error
message.

At any rate, try the steps I noted below and post back.

Tried everything you suggested to no avail.. Thanks for the help and if any
other suggestions come up please let me know. I am not an IT guy so creating
instalation points would need to be explained thoroughly.
