Check that the cd is clean,
Are you able to copy the disk contents to a temp folder?
Why did you have to reinstall winxp?

Ok....I will try that...thanks...I had to wipe my hard drive, so when I went
to reinstall office thats what it did..can that have anything to do with
service pack 3 from xp...cause I have already installed that...They only
thing I really want of the office cd is word ...is there a way to just
install WORD from microsoft if the cd will not work...??

Wipe your hd, why?
After you reinstalled win, did you then install your drivers, and not from
winupdate.
Did you then run winupdate, before trying to install anything else?
