Reinstalling office after laptop stolen
Posted by kermit ellis on August 4th, 2005

My son's Dell laptop had Office Pro 2003 when it was stolen recently. Can he
reinstall and reactivate Office on the new laptop he will be getting soon
without having to buy another copy? I also wonder if MS can de-activate
Office on the stolen computer where it might be.

Thanks,

If it came with the laptop no, he cannot. OEM licences live and die with the
system they are sold with - no matter what happens to it. Surely your
insurance is paying for the replacement, so can't you just request that it's
shipped with Office?

Thanks for your response. Office wasn't OEM, but was purchased with the
computer, then installed and activated.
