- Setup Repair failure

Reunning Win98 SE on an IBM Thinkpad 600
I have the latest updates for both Windows and Office as
of 7/18/03
I tried to run Setup and selected the "Repair" function.
At that point the hourglass mouse appears. However after a
while, when nothing seems to be happening, I pressed
CtrlAltDel and it shows that Setup in "Not Responding". I
shut down, rebooted and repeated Setup. Same result.
The problem I hope to fix is in Excel. When I double-click
on an XL file, XL opens but I get a message that
it "Cannot find the file 'C\......'(or one of its
components)."
However if I drag and drop the file on XL it runs fine.
I hope that by repairing Office XP I can fix the problem.

DO you get the same problem with "short" file names? e.g.
c:\temp\test.doc?
If this works, then your registry has got nack'd. If not - dunno.
There is a commant to run Excel and reset file associations - but
can't recall. Couuld be start-->run-->Excel /regserver
Search google groups for "excel reset file assocations"
