Hello folks,

In my infinite wisdom, I have created a slipstreamed SP2 + updates
version of Office XP Pro and pitched the original because I dreaded the
possibility of having to install the package + all service packs and updates
should I have needed to rebuild my machine. I have just attempted to install
the most recent security updates and the install procedure whines for the
proplus.msi file on the CD. When I insert my slipstreamed version, the
install from OfficeUpdate fails. What gives? Is there anyway to obtain the
most recent security updates from somewhere other than OfficeUpdate?

Office asks for the source files as validation of
ownership of the software during an upgrade. It seems
your "slipstreamed" cd has some issues. The easy fix is
to get replacement media for your original CD you pitched.

Yep, same here. I installed Office XP from a CD I made that had SP 2
slipstreamed, but now when I try and patch Office it won't accept my .msi
file.

In other words, I'll have to completely uninstall Office from my machine,
re-install the fresh copy + all the massive updates and service packs then
perhaps re-install all the secondary applications like EndNote and Adobe
Acrobat, etc. that integrate with Office and may have lost this integration
with the uninstall. Phew! This is absolutely ridiculous but thanks for the
advice.

Creating an image of an Office Admin point as a CD is a snapshot
of Office at a given revision level of Service Pack (SP)
updates. It is not the same as a Microsoft Office
Service Release product CD (i.e. full replacement product,
with updates, not provided by MS since Office 2000) nor
the original Office product CD.

Office Admin points that have updates applied to them
need to continue to be updated in that manner and then
you install/recache the client PC from that Admin point.

If you're using slipstream CDs you'd need to create a new
one for the new 'snapshot' level and recache the installed
client machine.

Office Admin point creation is not available for Office XP
or Office 2003 retail or OEM products.
