Unable to open files after updating to Office 2003
Posted by Greg Yancey on August 24th, 2006

After upgrading / installing MS Office 2003 Pro Edition from Office 2000, I
can no longer open any of my old Office Files, mostly Word and Excel files.

Furthermore, I can't get the MSIE Explorer to use Active C controls to
update MS Office 2003 with automactice updates. I have tried every
suggestion MS offered via the MS website and clicked on the link to make sure
I had a 32 bit browser and not a 64 bit version of IE 6. (I still can't
determine if the browser is 32 or 64. Is there a way to actual confirm this?)

The bottom line is I upgraded to Office 2003 Pro Edition and it has rendered
every previous MS Office file I have useless. MS Office 2003 suggest my
files can't be opened since it believes my virus protection is out of date.
Actually I'm using a Corporate Edition of Norton and it is updated daily. My
AV software is updated. I uninstalled MS Office 2003 and I still can't open
my old Word or Excel files.

Can anyone help? Do I have to pay $35 to get techincal support if I just
installed the software three days ago.

Thanks for any help in advance.
