upgrade to MS Office 2007 on new pc w/VISTA OS
Posted by Fred / Ocean Isle Beach, NC on February 6th, 2007

Can anyone tell me if I can use my current product key from my Microsoft
Office Small Business to purchase an upgrade to Office 2007 on my new Vista
O/S computer. I plan on disabling my old PC. Would I have to install the
older version on my new pc and then do the upgrade online

Hi Fred,

If you have Office 2000, XP/2002 or 2003 Small Business Edition CD you can use that as a qualifying product to purchase an upgrade
edition of MS Office 2007 (http://office.microsoft.com/suites)
(you don't need to install the older version of Office first to upgrade)

You can download a 60 day trial edition of Office 2007 from
http://trymicrosoftoffice.com as well, but the product key for the prior version only works on that product and version.

If you want to move the old version from one PC to another you can do so if it's a retail copy but not if the letters 'OEM' are part
of the product ID in Help=>About in Word for the earlier version. OEM products are tied to a particular machine.
