what does it mean when it says not a valid win32 application?

I just downloaded the trial version of the office suite standard edition.
Help I need assistance right away, when I tried to open the file it says that
it isnt "officestd.exe is not a valid win32 application. What does this mean
and how can I fix it? Thanks
