Windows Installer runs every time
Posted by Lynn on February 29th, 2004

Every time I open Excel 2003, Word 2003, etc., Windows
Installer tries to run. The applications seem to run ok
afterwards but they are looking for something that is no
longer there.

My history: I installed Office 2003 a month ago and
everything worked fine. (BTW, I'm running Windows XP.)
This weekend, I installed a larger HDD and let its
installation s/w copy all files from my old one.
Something got missed, I guess.

The error message I sometimes get is "Preparing to
install...patch package could not be opened".

I've also trieduninstalling Office and reinstalling but it
won't let me do htat either!

Any suggestions?

Thanks

I am looking for basically the same answer. I am running Win 2K and installed Office 2K. When I log into my power user account (not Admin) and start Outlook, it wants to install file from the SR-1 update that I installed. All software was installed under the Admin account, so why is Windows Installer running?
