Audio/DVD Skipping in MCE Playback
Posted by Bob Franzke on December 21st, 2005

Was wondering if anyone else has encountered this problem. I have an MCE box
connected to my AMP/Receiver via digital coax for audio (SPDIF) off of the
AC 97 sound card. I have set my sound card to use only the digital out for
audio and set my NVIDIA decoder to do so as well. When I view a DVD on MCE
(or through WMP) the sound seems to skip. It just cuts out for a second as
if there is no data for the receiver to process for a split second or it
gets out of sync. It seems to be only the audio output as the video never
seems to skip. I have upgraded drivers for the sound card and have the
latest drivers for the video card (6300 PCI-E NVIDIA card), as well as the
latest DVD decoder from NVIDIA. The only thing I have not done is uninstall
unneeded software (AV, Compaq stuff, etc.). It might be causing the
problems. This is an AMD 3500+ with 1GB of PC3200 RAM. If anyone has had a
similar issue please let me know how to fix it. Thanks.

When you say latest DVD Decoder do you mean the -185 release since it has a
fix for users also having MCE 2005 RU2 installed and who are uisng digital
output.
