display problems

I just bought a 42in EDTV Magnavox plasma and im having droubles with it. I
have Media ctr 2005. I have it connected from my htpc by a DVI cable. My
video card is a XFX 6600GT. I have the latest nvidia drivers an all updates
on this pc. When i play anything through this tv i get a green bar on the
right side of the screen and the picture seems shifted. I have tried media
centers tv setup and it didn't help. The tv doesn't have regular screen
adjustments like a computer monitor does so i can't shift the image.

Another thing that is wierd is the tv is supposed to support the following
from the vga port:
640x480/60hz
800x600/60hz
1024x768/60hz

and it says it supports the following from the dvi port:
420p/60hz
720p/60hz
1080i/60hz

When i switch it to anything but 640x480 then i get no tv signal. I don't
even see the computer boot up. I only get a signal when windows adjust the
resolution on the display. Ive tried 800x600 & 1024x768. I tried to find
windows drivers from my plasma display but i don't think there are any. Even
time i run the tv setup through media center it says it appears my
resolution is not correct.

If I understand you correctly you are only using a DVI conection to your
EDTV and it will not support 1280x720@60Hz like its manual says it will
after your system has booted up into windows, is this correct if your are
using MCE or just plain PC desktop applications?

Is there any possiblity that your TV is designed to receive NTSC video over
HDMI instead of PAL video since the resolutions and refresh rates and the
difference in refresh rates may be the casue of your problem. The component
TV receiver chips are more flexable.

Be aware of thing im not using HDMI im using DVI which i think are pretty
much the same except hdmi carries sound. Let me see if i understand what
your saying though. Are you saying i should just forget about DVI & just go
either svideo/component video? I don't want to do this if at all possible
because dvi would be a better signal of course. My video card has a svideo
dongle and not a component video anyways and i definitly don't want to go
with svideo if all possible.

I am confused by the following:
"
> When i switch it to anything but 640x480 then i get no tv signal. I don't
> even see the computer boot up. I only get a signal when windows adjust the
> resolution on the display. Ive tried 800x600 & 1024x768.

"
Does this mean you have not tried 1280x720@60Hz?

What happens when you just try and run PC desktop applications instead of
trying to watch TV using MCE with your desktop resoluton set to 1280x720?
