Help displaying video
Posted by Jeff on December 27th, 2005

I am an mcse new to video\audio world. I have built my first media center
2005 pc with a ati radeon 9600XT video card and happuage 150 MCE edition
tunner card. I also use a local cable company that connects directly to the
TV.

My problem is when I choose to watch tv, record tv and play tv back and
watch a dvd nothing happens. Media center just sets at the media center menu
or media center guide or wherever video was select from and I cannot use the
remote to cancel or break out of the menu. There is also a box in the lower
left hand corner that says video stopped. I have only installed nvidia
decoder installed and its version is 4020.185.00. I have used microsofts
decoder check tool to verify this. The media center setup wizard saye I have
a proper TV signal. I also have adobe acrobat 7 and Symantec Antirus 10
corperate edition installed. All media center updates have been updated.

You both have to be sure you have installed a MCE compatible DVD Decoder
which does not come with the OEM version of MCE or with most tuner cards.
The most recommended Decoder is the DVD Decoder from the NVIDIA Website for
which you can get a 30 day free trial or purchse the basic version for $20.

Are you usiing the Catalyst 6.1 drivers (the latest release) with hardware
acceleration enabled for your 9600 card?
How much memory is on your 9600 card?
Can you play a DVD or a recorded TV program using Media Player instead of
MCE?
