MCE 2004 control of DirecTV H20 STB
Posted by mike_p on December 3rd, 2007

I am running MCE 2004 on a Viewsonic M2000 HTPC. Until recently, I had a
Samsung STB (SIR-TS160) for DirecTV. The PC has an IR blaster and was able to
control the STB without any problems. A few weeks ago I replaced the STB with
a DirecTV H20, and cannot get the PC to control the STB.

I went through the setup in MCE and tried two approaches. First, since MCE
recognized that a STB had already been set up, I just tried to retrain it
with the new STB remote. That didn't work. Second, I tried the "Start over
and reconfigure" option. That didn't work either. I know the blaster is
blasting because it contains a red LED that blinks along with the IR one.

I saw a couple other threads in this forum that suggested moving the IR
blaster an inch or two away from the sensor. I tried it and it didn't work.

Are there known control issues with MCE 2004 and the H20? If so, are they
fixed in MCE 2005? Is it possible to control the H20 with MCE 2004? I don't
want to have to buy a new OS just for this.
