- Newbie Question on Media Center Hardware
- Posted by sin_tax on December 2nd, 2005
Am new to Media Center but since I want a PC that can replace my old
stereo/tv combo I have - I was thinking of getting one PC to do that but I
don't know what or how. Is Media Center a good choice? Don't know much of it
apart from what I read on the website. Also in terms of H/W. What would be
the wish list items that I should want and hopefully work with media center?
thx for your ideas.

You can certainly use a Media Center PC to replace your stereo/tv, although
it often helps to have a TV to watch your TV on, and a stereo to amplify
your audio signal. So don't throw them away yet...
With Media Center PCs, you have the choice of building one, or buying one.
This holiday season there seem to be a lot of pretty good deals available,
so buying one could be cheaper than building one.
Start at www.mediacenterstuff.com - my web site for those who build their
own. Links there will take you to other Media Center resources. Then, when
you get more questions, come back here and ask...

With regard to "something to amplify your speakers" - this is a new amplifier
just for Windows MCE coming out - to be released in December. I just
pre-ordered mine - looks like a perfect fit!
something to add to your "build list"

Interesting, but I have little need of it...my MCE runs into the TV's
speakers, and I'm using onboard audio because my ears can't tell the
difference between it and a dedicated sound board...
Too many years listening to loud rock and roll as a teenager, I guess <g>.
