- No sound from MCE but everything else works
- Posted by Bjorn on December 30th, 2007
My DELL Inspiron 6000 with AverMedia AverTV Hybrid+FM Cardbus stopped sending
sound from Media Center the other day. I can play music, Youtube etc and I
hear all Windoms sounds, clicking etc. It's just live-TV or recorded-TV that
cannot play sound. My machine is fully updated and got the latest for sound
card and MCE. I've checked the cable, and my stationery DVB-T decoder says
the signals from all MUXs at the broadcasting compane are very strong & high
quality. The picture in MCE is good. Any ideas on where i might look? The
settings in MCE isn“t that detailed... Regards Bjorn

Do I understand that only TV sound does not work in MC and that you do get
sound when you play a DVD in Media Center?

Thanks for your interest. Unfortunately, I cant test that since after seeing
your reply I started the PC after some days shutdown and it works!! Haven't
done anything
with since last time when it didn't work.
I had made several reboots earlier but with no success.
Any ideas on what this can be?
Regards,
Bjorn

Sorry no ideas except maybe your PC was overheating from lack of
ventilation.

I just found a fix for my problem, which might be the same one you're having.
I have a Dell computer with Windows XP Media Center. My problem was that I
could not hear sound while playing Recorded TV using Media Center, Windows
Media Player, etc.
After doing some research, I found that the Cyberlink Power DVD 7.0 software
that Dell supplied via cd-rom with my computer caused the problem.
I uninstalled this version, and installed Cyberlink Power DVD 5.7 (which I
fortunately had sitting around the house). Voila - I've got sound when
viewing recoreded tv! I then used the online update within the Power DVD
program to upgrade to the most recent version.
Hope this helps someone.

To my post above, I want to add that Cyberlink Power DVD 7.0...... DID allow
me to hear sound on my office computer which recorded the live TV. The
problem occurred when I used my family room computer (which had the Cyberlink
Power DVD 7.0) to try and watch a TV show that was recorded on my office
computer.
