- Power off or Stand-by
- Posted by TomB on December 20th, 2005
I don't want to leave my machine on 24/7 and would like to use it more like a
VCR. For example, I'd like it to either turn off or go into standby when the
recording is complete. Does anyone know how to do this?
Of course if it goes into standby, would it be possible to bring it out of
standby to record a scheduled TV show?
Thanks

Yes, it will come out of standby to make a recording, exactly what Standby
shuts down varies slightly from PC to PC. You can set it up the same as any
Windows PC -- in Control Panel, Power Options.

Thanks for the reply. How do I make it go into standby? Lef's say that i
schedule a recording from "The Guide". What would make it go into stand-by
when this recording is completed?

Just set the Power Settings for Standby fairly low (5 minutes or something),
after that period it will go into standby and come out when necessary to
make a recording. I don't think there is a way to tell MCE to immediately go
to standby upon completion of a recording though. Maybe program a script or
something.
