Proper connection
Posted by pseudocajun on December 9th, 2005

Hi,

one final question, I hope!!! *grin*

I am having a home theatre media center built and have a few question
regarding connections:

We have digital cable that is currently connected to a STB and the to my A/V
receiver and finally the TV.

When I receive the new media center, can I still run the digital cable into
the STB, to the Media Center, to the A/V receiver, and then the the TV? I
ask this because I've heard that I may not be able to watch the higher
numbered channels, 200 - 500, without the STB?

Your advice and guidance is much appreciated.

You can only recieve SD 480i video using an RF, S-Video or composite input
from a STB to a MCE tuner/capture card. Your digital STB will output any
digital SD or HD programs to at least one of these interface. S-Video is
the best option.
Yes the analog Tuner on Tuner card can only receive channels 1-125 so the
higher channels must come through the STB.
Note: My answers assume you live in North America.

Hi JW,

yes, I live in North America - PA! However, my ancestors have not forgiven
me for moving north of the Mason-Dixon Line!

So, to receive channels above 125, how would that work, would one guide be
used to record and watch tv for channels below 125 (hauppauge uses titan tv)
and then comcast (which supplies the STB) for all other channels? Or would I
not need the Titan TV since I will continue to utilize the STB?

Thanks again for all of your assistance.
