TV Tuner upgrade advice, please
Posted by Myxx on April 13th, 2008

Hey folks,

I know this isn't MCE/VMC specific, but it's related... Figured I'd ask.

I'm looking to upgrade my tuner card, and am having trouble deciding. I
currently use an old Hauppauge WinTV PVR PCI II single-tuner analog card.
It works fine, but I want dual tuner, digital, etc.

Considering I've had great success with Hauppauge, I figured I'd stick with
that. That being said, however, I'm looking hard at the HVR-1800 and the
soon-to-be-released HVR-2250. Problem is, I'm not really sure what the
differences are. Anyone familiar with these enough to be able to enlighten
me a bit, so I can make a smart buy?

Thanks,

Myxx

When you say digital, are you looking for over the air or cable? If cable,
your only option is a new PC with dual Digital Cable Tuners. These are
currently manufactured by ATI and only sold with new Digital Cable Ready
certified PC's.
