Vista MCE TV playback won't fill my widescreen
Posted by Brussell on April 11th, 2008

Hello HTPC community,

In running Vista MCE (in Ultimate), I've thus far been unable to get my TV
playback to fill my widescreen display. When I play movies, no problem.
But even on shows that are formatted for widescreen, I still have the black
vertical bars on either side of the display, making my 32" LCD no more than
an expensive 27" CRT. When I bypass the MCE PC and take the cable direct to
the TV, I can get the video to fill the screen, even if it distorts the
aspect ratio a bit.

I'm connected to my TV via VGA input, but it's the same even when I run
through DVI to HDMI. The Windows Desktop fills the screen, but TV playback
seems to be limited to 4:3, rather than 16:9.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Press the More Info button on the remote and then click Zoom on the menu.
Some TV's will automatically scale what they get from cable or aerial, MCE
doesn't.

Thanks Doug and Nigel. I don't have a MCE remote, so I guess I'll need to
go pick one of those up. My particular brand of TV doesn't allow for wide
mode changes on the VGA input, so I was fairly confident that it would have
to be through MCE. I just didn't realize that it required the remote,
rather than a configurable option within Media Center.

Thanks again!

Just learned that this can be controlled by the mouse, as well as through
the MCE remote. Thanks for all your great input!

Yep, right click and get the context menu, just like Windows. :-)
