WINDOWS MEDIA CENTER VERSION PROBLEM
Posted by camilo on October 10th, 2005

I got my windows mediacenter OS 2005 softwear in the store a few months ago,
i register after instaled and now I was trying to upgrade online and
everytime I trying to run the upgrade it said that it is not for that
version, thats was weird to me and Went to the media center settings and it
said version 2005 but when I went to the computer properties it said version
2002, I'm not sure if this is the reason that I can not upgrade my media
center.
Please someone had has the same problem and how to fix it?
Thanks.

You can not upgrade to MCE 2005 from another OS you must do a new install on
a partition that does not have an OS installed on it.

This is the proper way to check the Media Center version.
Any other methods (i.e. the system control panel) will likely yield
incorrect results.

How to determine the version of Media Center that you are running

You probably have 2005, The 2002 in the computer properties is the version
of Windows XP, 2005 is the version of Media Center.

Did your copy activate with no trouble?

What exactly were you trying to download that gave you problems?
