- Xbox extender and 5.1 digital audio
- Posted by masik on February 13th, 2006
I had posted the following question to MCE news group. But did not see any
reply. May be that is the wrong group to post this question. So trying my
luck here.
I will add one more question, does MCE support Dolby Digital Audio output
(5.1 channel) streamed to Xbox extender. I mean can I get digital audio out
from xbox High Def AV pack if I am using MCE.
---------------------------------------
I have upgraded my xbox cable from std to High Def AV. This now provides me
with component video out and optical digial audio out. When I use the xbox
extender to connect to TV, it works fine (meaning a good video reception via
component video and I can hear audiot). However, my receiver does not
indicate its receiving digital audio.
Can MCE extender provide digital audio output? The High Def AV cable does
support it. Not sure if MCE extender supports it. If it is supported how do I
set it up?
My set up is as follows
xbox extender => high def AV cable => component video out => component video
in of the TV
xbox extender => high def AV cable => optical digital audio out => optical
digital audio in of the receiver
Its a SONY receiver and if it receives digital audio, the status shows
'digital audio present'. When I start MCE extender I do hear audio but looks
like its not receiving digital audio.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Is this an original Xbox or the Xbox 360 you are discussing?

Hello Derek,
This is original Xbox. Not xbox 360. From another reply here is my
understanding so far....
1) MCE-2005 and Xbox extender combination would not give you digital audio
if one only has analog TV tuner card.
2) To get digital audio from MCE-2005 one needs to connect HD output (video
and audio both) to TV and receiver from HD OTA card.
3) Only other way to get digital audio form MCE-2005 is to connect video out
and S/P DIF out I have on my AV card to the TV and receiver respsectively.
Is this correct?
Thanks.
