- LVM Cmd Line gives "Cannot get disk data from the LVM engine" ?
- Posted by Chris Hodgkins on November 12th, 2004
I went to use the command line version of LVM today (rather than the
Java GUI) and LVM is throwing back the "Cannot get disk data from the
LVM engine" error message.
The Java GUI still seems to work, so I've made the changes I wanted, but
I'm just curious as to how I might have broken the command line version.
Anyone else had this?
cheers

Do you get an invalid drive message when you open the LVMGUI?
Have you used a thumb drive? It appears that some of the code in the
LVM.EXE is broken and tries to get partition data from a drive that is
no longer mounted. It also appears that the LVMGUI calls the LVM engine
(engine.dll) directly and handles the invalid drive correctly.

Are right, thanks Chuck, that would be it. Yes, I've recently used a
thumb drive. Guess I'll stick to LVMGUI than.
much obliged.
