- Shutdown auto restarts
- Posted by johnsuth@nospam.com.au on May 30th, 2004
Two of my boxes have developed a habit of auto restarting following a
shutdown, when they used to wait for me to turn the power off.
Any suggestions here?

Plus you have defective BIOS that does not honor OS/2's power off
command. Thus, it restarts. I had that problem with every VIA main
board until this one (currently installed on my machine). The solution
is to open Xworkplace and disable its shutdown function.

How do you know? Seeing as the guy didn't give any detail whatsoever,
how can you speculate about anything? You are as clueless as he seems.

Thanks Paul,
As it happens I don't use Xworkplace and the mobo BIOSs did until
recently honour OS/2's power off command. One of the boxes is VIA but
the other is not.
However you are correct about my being clueless as to the reason for the
change in behavior.

something NEW or changed. Since it is over two boxes, I'd suspect
software update as hardware updates are not as common.

My problem is just the opposite. I have to use the reset button to get
a re-boot. Using XWP 1.0.2.
