- Alcatel Speedtouch and ICS

Hello,
has anyone here configured an Alcatel Speedtouch 330 USB
connection with WinMe Internet connection Sharing across a LAN comprising of
server and client with NIC's and a Cat 5 crossover cable? I'm having one
hell of a time here and would dearly love to pick someone's brains about it.

........... well, every time I get to the point of adding ICS the internet
becomes unusable. Here's the tutorial I'm using

When I get to this page

I can connect to the net but only a few bytes are transferred before the
connection hangs. Still live but no flow...
I think it's because I have a USB modem instead of adsl coming in to the PC
via an Ethernet card.
How did you do it?

I have the self same USB Alcatel 330 ADSL modem connected to the Host PC and
a 3 PC LAN .
Host and Client 1 use XP Home and Client 2 Win ME with a hard wired LAN via
a Netgear DS104 hub.
1. Uninstall ALL firewalls until system working.
2. Set up LAN connection and enable File Sharing on all PC's and check you
can connect and view all PC's.
If using XP on 1 of the PC's use the XP Network wizard.
3. Make sure the XP firewall is disabled on the Network LAN connection.
4. Enable Broadband on the Host PC and check it is working correctly.
5. Rerun the Network wizard and this time take note of which PC is connected
to the Internet and which are not when running the wizard.
6. Check ICS is running from the client PC's.
7.Re-install your Firewall.
I use Zone Alarm Free on the client machines and ZA Pro on the Host. These
have to be configured under the Security - Advanced menu to allow the client
and Host PC's to communicate.

Sorted! Was just giving up and opened an html page saved on the client and
it downloaded a banner ad! Never have I been so pleased to see a large,
tacky, animated gif pop up on a page......
It was the firewall I think, Zonealarm not up to the job. Zonealarm pro
did the trick. A lot of fiddling, learnt a lot too... and now got ICS, a
LAN, one for business, one for home... pleased as punch!
USB ADSL, WinMe, ICS and an ethernet cat5 crossover.... what a pile of
missmatched bits to lose my networking virginity too!

ZA Free can be used but should be installed after the network has been set
up and then needs to be configured properly, but it does work as well as the
pay version.
