Any Experience of Zen?
Posted by Jeff Gaines on November 1st, 2006

I have an ADSL Max account with Demon and it looks like I'm about to be
sold.

I have been looking at ADSL Guide and Zen seem to come out near the top
for service/speed and reliability. Are they really that much better than
others? I live in a village, some way from the exchange, and get a
reliable 3Mbps connection at the moment. I'm not going to get faster but
reliable, with an English speaking help centre, would be good.

had a problem. I get good speeds around the 6Mb mark. They also include 2 GB
of webspace with unlimited traffic and a binary news server. The phone
support is English based.

Been with Zen for years and very happy. Had a number of times where I have
needed to call them and they were excellent each time.

Been with them for over a year, one word "excellent" but they cost a bit
more.

You get what you pay for.

I tried a bit of Zen but couldn't manage to sit in the Lotus position
for 3 hours so I gave it up and took up Aerobics :-)

Been with Zen for quite some time now. They worked hard to get some
initial speed problems sorted (turned out to be completely BT's fault -
bah!), then recently I wanted to upgrade to MAX, got a bit peeved by
their online process, and emailled a whinge to them, got a call back
about half an hour later, they did it there and then on the phone and
I was MAXed out the NEXT MORNING.

They also suggested that as MAX was capped, (I was on an uncapped 2Mb
service prior) I actually drop down to the next lower level, saving
me a tenner a month in the process. So I'm now on the £25pcm deal,
20GB download limit @ 7Mbps (I hit 10GB last month, but that was
exceptional, and I got a nice warning email in plenty of time, should I
have needed to purchase a top-up) I don't do p2p, video/music downloads,
but do backup some small servers I manage for my clients.

I do not use their email or web facility though, so can't comment on
those, and I think their call centre is in Sheffield, so while you might
not get an "Enlgish" plummy accent, at least it's in the UK.

I know another ISP has its call centre there, but I thought Zen had

Yeah it was a real Demon, but I decided not to be a Bulldog about it and
get all Tiscalli. After all it could have been TeleWorst !!

Thanks to everybody for the replies :-)

I suppose the 'dream ticket' would be Zen buying Demon's private
customers. I'll have to see where we end up but if I need to jump ship Zen
looks like a good choice.

PS - I can live with a good Yorkshire accent no problems!!!

See you on the forum one day then, they are only monthly contracts and that
say's a lot in itself so you can always move on if it's not for you.

But to be honest you won't move after trying it, all new signups are MAXdsl
with a cap on downloads, no cap on uploading but you can buy more download
if required.
