Best basic ADSL modem/router to carry out initial connection
Posted by kevin bailey on November 6th, 2006

Hi,

I have Demon wires only service and have used Netgear products for a few
years.

Recently the Netgear products are starting to be very poor quality - the
firmware always needs to be upgraded and they are starting to exhibit flaky
behaviour.

Generally for companies I need to connect to the ADSL service with a basic
ADSL router which then passes the traffic to another more expensive VPN
router.

For the initial connection I have used Netgear DG632's and a variety of
internal routers. FVS318's (which were great), FVS124G,s and various
wireless models.

The initial router should be either able to pass all traffic back to the
next router or act in bridge mode or zipb mode.

What would be a good initial router - and a good range of internal routers.

I would go for Allied Telesyn for the internal routers but they are a bit
expensive to sell on.

Also, Linksys seem to do a great router which does ADSL and VPN which seesm
to be very popular.

Maybe most sites would be best off with this router?
