BT wholesale - higher speeds?
Posted by Dan on November 17th, 2004

With the cable companies upping their speeds again, and the new 8mbps
service (local loop unbundling) is there any hope of BTWhole increasing
there speeds (for free??) lol or releasing higher speed products for a bit
more dollar per month? Especially the upstream speed.

The highest speed available to both business and home is still 2mbps! How
depressing it that??

I'm looking foward to hearing your replies.

BT Wholesale can't upgrade existing users speeds for "free" as the cable
companies have been able to.

This is because the cable companies are fully vertically integrated and can
do what they like.

BT Wholesale's customers are ISP's and they have signed specific contracts
with them.

BT Wholesale could launch a faster product at the same wholesale price as an
existing one, but it would be up to ISP's to switch to that product and for
them to decide what to charge their end users.

or releasing higher speed
Well for more pounds certainly - but expect faster download speeds and not
faster upload speeds

Well if you convince BT Wholesale there is a large market for faster speeds
they will no doubt release faster products...

you appear to be in the wrong group, or currency.

do you have a 2M service ? have you noticed that Pipex's revenue
indicates that their average user is a 512k user, so any 1M users are
offset by the slower products.

How much real demand is there for the faster speeds, I wonder.
