In case you were thinking of using Pipex
Posted by Tony Brett on February 17th, 2007

This is an ongoing saga from last summer and Pipex's failure to direct
debit me for any money. Today I had my second threatening letter
despite lots of contact with pipex and promises from one RIchard Deboer
that things would be sorted out. They have five direct debits set up on
my bank account now and have never taken any money. Here's what I've
sent today:

------

Richard,

I have just had a letter date 15th Feb threatening me with disconnection
because I haven't paid. WHAT IS GOING ON? I have been trying to ring
the 0870 number today (AT MY EXPENSE) and there isn't anyone available
who can help. The person that took the call said I needed to ring back
on Monday and hung up on me when I asked for someone senior.

HOW DARE Pipex send me a threatening letter about THEIR OWN MISTAKE to
arrive on a Saturday morning and then not have the capacity available on
the number I am invited to call, to deal with my enquiry. I like to
spend my weekend relaxing. Not dealing with the sheer incompetence of
shoddy outfits like yourselves.

I am no longer prepared to tolerate this situation so am now INSTRUCTING
you to take the amount owing from the direct debit and then issue me
with a MAC code so I can move to a competent supplier. I trust I don't
need to remind you of the change in the law regarding MAC codes that
came into force on 14th Feb.

As the Head of IT Support Staff services in Oxford University I often
get asked to recommend ADSL suppliers. I have been recommending Pipex
until now but you can be assured that my future comments about Pipex
will include references to a barge pole.

Tony Brett

------

Can anyone suggest anything else I can do to sort this out.

Tony

objective? (1) to continue mocking their continuing incompetence or (2) to
get shot of them once and for all? If (2) and you agree the amount owing,
send them a cheque or better a BACS transfer, move on and put it down to
experience.

Organisations hardly employ anybody to deal with a letter like you have
sent. It will achieve objective (1) but not likely (2). You need to be
smarter.

I wouldn't owing money if they could do direct debits competently. The
error is completely theirs.

My objectives are
1. To settle to account
2. To migrate to another more competent ISP that won't waste me so much
time by its sheer incompetence.

I would do a BACS transfer or send a cheque if I knew the amount owing
but the letter doesn't even state that!

Does "A" stand for Asshole here? Please don't bother replying.

a somewhat unfitting remark for the Head of IT Support Staff services in
Oxford University (if that is who you are)

best not reply to that remark cos if you do I may well write forward it to
the Principal.

Looks like you need to learn some manners Slick. People like you
shouldn't even be at a University. Looks like any presentations you
gave can be ignored as totally useless.

With a reply like that, methinks you are not being quite truthful in

As with other posters, I rather doubt the provenance of this post, why would
someone with that job title come looking for help here (alt.uk.law maybe).

The email address isn't one of either of the ones on the net, least of all
the cleverly disguised one on the web page that comes up at OUCS, but that
is work.

The comments are OTT for a senior manager and politician.

OTOH he can be a bit free on local news groups...

What on earth are you talking about top poster ?

The website is forwarded to the OUCS website for a 'tony', nothing to
do with any email address disguised or otherwise.

Indeed, it looks like the same person actually did post from oucs :

Well we all had a little fun ;o) but Seriously I would advise you to
cancel the direct debits. Email them a request to terminate the service.
Tell them you will settle via BACS when they send you an invoice, pretty
much like Mr "A" suggests.
