Draytek changed a lot of their models recently.
See http://www.draytek.co.uk/products/products.html

All much the same price the last time I looked.

though as it is to be used with a centrino laptop rather than having to
buy a G card, I really cant find a 2600we anywhere , perhaps it's been
discontinued but I cant find any info on the draytek website.

Have a look at www.zionmedia.co.uk which is where I bought my 2600 several
months ago. Also www.broadbandbuyer.co.uk . If a Draytek is too expensive,
you might like to consider the US Robotics 9106.

It's still listed here:
http://www.wireless4u.co.uk/products...ytek&offset=10
but the price is 149.99 + Vat - same as 2600G
If they actually have the We you could try for end of line discount...

Martin

has been discontinued and replaced with the G so it's a bugger for us
centrino laptop users (or does the G work with 802.11b as well???) well
if anyone knows of any cheap ones going (as it is now discontinued
stock, let me know i'll have one)

The 2600G works fine with Centrino and all other 802.11b clients.

Cheers, Benedict.

just because I dont need the extra transfer speed the 2600g provides

Nobody has any. SEG stopped bringing them into the country in early
December.

I tried to find one for a customer over two months ago and they were already
sold out then.

If any company is advertising them as in stock, they are almost certainly
refurbs or returns. Don't buy an obsolete router; the 2600G is not much more
expensive, and the extra features - enhanced VPN, USB print server - are
useful.

the G has everything the WE has, and more, for the same price. a 54Mb
(802.11g) will work with your Centrino laptop, but all the fallback rate
od 11Mb/sec (same as 802.11b), the standards are backwards
compatible.... There is no reason to get a WE when a G is the same price...

Might not now but in the future you might want to have it and for the sake
of saving a couple of quid now, you might want a new one in a few years.

Another possibility is a straight 2600 and adding on a cheap wireless access
point and if you need to add another faster one later.

Get basic local networking going first, then the internet connection,
then configure the wireless link last.

I'd recommend switching DHCP off in the router and assigning fixed
addresses manually because you can easily keep track of the small
number of addresses in a home network and it's one less thing to go
wrong.
