Just replaced a Netgear DS106 10/100Mb/s hub with a Linksys WAG54G
wireless router/adsl modem.
My Dell 8200 (Win XP) and Toshiba Libretto (Win 98SE) work fine when
connected to the router RJ45 ports, but a Dell GXa and Dell GXi cannot
even access the router console or be pinged from the router. The
offending PCs are running Windows 98SE and I am using static IP
addressing (192.168.1.10x) which all work happily together with the
"normal" 10base10 hub.
Wireless connection from another Windows 98SE Dell GXi with a Linksys
WMP54G PCI card works fine as well.
Another curious point is that if I connect the hub (with all the PCs
still connected to it) to the router (using an RJ45 cross-over cable),
the PCs still communicate with eachother as you would expect, but
those that worked when directly connected to the router cannot access
it when passing via the hub. So there seems to be some kind of
compatibility issue between the older Dell GXa and Gxi PCs and Netgear
Hub ethernet connections and the Linksys router.
Anyone any bright ideas ?
Thanks, Mark...
