I can't connect to my home pc or router from my employers network.

At home Ihave Nildram broadband (dynamic ip) connected through a Draytec 2600
wireless router. The main PC is hooked up directly to one of the Ethernet ports
on the router.

I opened up a couple of ports on the router NAT table 3389 - to allow remote
desktop communication with my main pc, but I can't access from work.

In fact I cannot even ping my router.

Any ideas people ?

At a guess, your workplace have blocked non-essential ports.

If you need access to your home PC and this access is sanctioned as OK by
your employers, they should be able to arrange access for you.

I think you need a static ipaddress for your home network. What ip address
do you try to connect to....you can use one of the dynamic dns services

I agree I'll need a static IP for a more permanent solution, but I can't even
see my router from work. I checked the IP of my router in the monrning, tested
the connection from work (no luck) and verified the IP address was the same when
i got home. So I'm sure that the dynamic IP is not the source of this particular
problem.

Is there some way I can use one of these dynamic dns web programs (like no-ip)
to connect to my main pc that will work using my router IP instead of my main pc
?

You'll probably find that the 2600 is configured not to respond to pings
from the internet (it's in the config under Management Setup).

As far as dynamic DNS goes, the 2600 supports this for a number of service
providers (like no-ip.com which I use myself).

As to whether you should be trying to access your home PC from work, I'll
leave that between you and your employer :-)
