Connecting a PC to a D-Link DSL-300G+ Console port
Posted by Graham Lally on January 10th, 2004

Hi there,

Does anyone have any details for connecting a PC to the "Console" port
of a D-Link DSL-300G+ adsl modem?

Have tried hooking up an FCC68 4-contact/4-position connector to a DB9
and connecting via HyperTerm, but to no effect (although not sure
where a fault, if any, would be in the set-up). Looks like all it
needs is Ground, RX and TX wires, although I can't find any schematics
to find out which is TX and which is RX on the modem's connector. The
4th pin doesn't /look/ like it does anything...

Something went wrong when saving the config to flash, and the modem
isn't responding to anything now - no http, telnet or ping. Was hoping
that a flash upgrade via the console port would help matters, but I
may have to just see about sending it back.

Thanks muchly,
..g

Have you tried the D-Link support page at

Are you sure that the console port *is* a serial connection? If so, you'll
need not only to get the wiring right but also to configure with PC's serial
port with the right baud rate etc.
