- connection flickering
- Posted by JIP on November 3rd, 2006
Hi
I have a Linksys WAG54G, hardwired into two PCs. Since yesterday the LEDs
for the Ethernet connections keep flickering on and off, and on the PCs
themselves, messages keep flicking up - one that "a network cable is
unplugged" , followed almost instantaneously by another one saying "Local
Area Connection is now connected".
I've tried rebooting the router and changing the cable, but I guess the fact
that it's happening on both connections rules the cables out anyway.
Is this an indication that my modem/router is giving in?
Thanks

I'd say yes - but prett weirdly that's exactly what happened to mine
yesterday too...
That seems a pretty weird coincidence to me!

I've just returned one to Linksys as the ethernet cable connection had
failed, wireless was ok.
There's a 3 year manufactures warrantee on them, they've emailed to say that
a wag54g is no longer available so they will be replacing it with the
current model.
If you still have a till receipt and is in warrantee contact ...... Linksys

I've met LSI that consistently fail, also reed relays,
some printers had electrolytics that leaked (and
a right mess they made of the PCB's),
opto-couplers and triacs can go south.
It's not weird at all.

Further to mine giving up in the same way, check this post:

I haven't tried this yet, as I've put a temporary one in place but might be
worth a go in the interim...
