Connection problem

I wonder if anyone has any suggestion about this problem that I am
having with my ADSL connection.

Last Tuesday I was upgraded to 2M then a couple of hours later lost my
connection. I went through all the usual procedures of switching off,
disconnecting etc but could not get a connection to my ISP though the
MRi AS502 router was showing WAN LINK present.

I went out and bought a Belkin 54G but that was exactly the same i.e.
ADSL signal present but no connection to my ISP.

Six days later I got my connection back and it is believed that BT might
have reset the card in the exchange. I am finding that the MRi AS502
connects OK after being switched off overnight or when out of the house
but if I first try the Belkin 54G it will not connect and just gives the
same ADSL present but no Internet connection indications. If I make the
connection using the MRi AS502 then disconnect that and connect the
Belkin 54G it connects OK.

I contacted Belkin and so far all that they have suggested is doing a
reset then reloading the settings with the idle time set to 999.

I did this last night and initially the Belkin 54G would still not
connect though it did eventually after having the MRi AS502 connected.

This morning I first tried Belkin 54G and it would not connect again and
still would not connect after switching off and using the MRi AS502 for
a few minutes. I tried again after using the MRi AS502 for a few hours
and the Belkin 54G now connects OK.

Has anyone any ideas about what is the problem could be apart from a
faulty Belkin 54G. I have a suspicion that if I get it replaced then the
same might happen with a new one.
