I have a computer running Windows XP that is connected to Tiscalil via a USB
Speedtouch 330 Broadband modem. How can i configure it so that when i startup
my computer the modem automatically connects to the Internet, without me
having to click the connect icon.
Thanks

You can't with the 330. To do what you suggest would require a router.

after a bad crash. I have it so that he has to click on the connect icon to,
connect. However he said that it always used to connect when he started it up.
Can I take it that this was never the case??

Unless I'm mistaking this for a different thread here or in another group,
one comment there (to make a connection occur on boot) was to use 'Startup'
group off the Windows start menu, and put some connection shortcut there.
Personally I'd recommend using a router and connect via ethernet - routers
will stay online to the ISP, and allow 'instant' access, and using NAT, do
a bit of firewalling for the user, compared with any USB/PCI ADSL modem, so
keeping the PC more protected during boot {there's some time before any s/w
firewall will be enabled, and some operations might disable the firewall to
allow for upgrades etc, so leave the PC especially vulnerable at that time}

no, a shortcut in the Startup folder is one way to auto-connect. Other
methods include virus checkers and the like going on-line to update
themselves and initiating the connection.

Another interpretation of the previous behaviour is that the first use of IE
triggered the ADSL connection using the "Automatically connect" setting in
IE. This would mean that the computer would connect for any internet
request, typically the AV update.

If I was to start up IE7, it will actually make a connection to the Internet.
However any other program (ie outlook or Firefox) will not auto connect.

I'm a little surprised about MS OE not causing the same action as MS IE,
as changing to 'Work Offline' (File menu) generally affects both of them
(but won't affect Firefox, since that doesn't take as much notice of the
Internet Options / Connection settings - which can be handy sometimes).
