I've just bought a D-Link DSL-604 Wireless ADSL router for use with BT
broadband and to replace the supplied BT ADSL modem (which works
fine).

I'm having a nightmare getting the thing working.

One of the problems I have is that BT have given me a userid but say
toleave the password blank which works fine with the modem but the
D-Link router won't let you have a blank password!!!!

The settings otherwise follow what others have already mentioned
(listed below) and in fact were the defaiult settings anyway. ie:

VPI: 0
VCI: 38
Encapsulation: PPPoALLC
Authentication: CHAP
Connect On Demand: enabled
Idle Time: 0
NAT Configuration - Nat Function: enabled

Can anyone who's got this working advise on other settings I might
need?

Other settings are:
Idle Time: 0
IP Control: Get IP From ISP

Thanks for any pointers - the BT information is geared solely to their
own modem and gives no information at all. They seem to be saying on
the one hand "we supply ADSL" and on the other "we're not an ISP
you'll have to go and pay someone else to get proper email addresses
etc". I'm not impressed! (I do have accounts with other ISPs but
that's hardly the point).
