- D-Link DSL500/504 setup
- Posted by Megashorts on September 26th, 2003
Need a little help with my D-Link DSL500. I guess the 504 is very similar.
I've just updated the firmware to R2.21.002.03.b2t18uk which works fine
using the standard NAT configuration.
I've enabled a DMZ pointing to a non-existant address on my network with
"stealths" all my ports.
In the "Advanced Filtering and Firewall" menu how do I get it to block the
ICMP protocol from all external IP addresses?
Thanks in advance.

You are way ahead of me (technically and firmware)
May I ask where did you get rev 18uk? I have a rev B router and the latest
firmware appears to be R2.21.00206.b12uk .
Do you know how to use MSN Messenger 6 or windows messenger 5 on the DSL.
Everytime I start a video conference or web cam it hangs the router.
I have enabled uPnp and ticked all the Nat Alg boxes.
I have installed the uPnP from my xp cd.
I have started the uPnP service.
Any thoughts?

The latest firmware is available to download from D-Link's UK website.
Having written that I thought I'd better check and the file for a rev b is
b12uk. In the folder with it is another file for b18uk. The date on the file
is very recent so could it be an error?
Give D-Link a phone call. Its an 0800 number and I got through straight away
when I called.
I updated mine to cure the MSN Messenger problem. I can send and receive
video and files perfectly now.

I thought the megashorts might be a nospam and it is.
I've been hammed by that bloody virus because I used my real email address
on the news groups.
I've just pulled the file again and it's definitely 12uk on the rev B. Does
it say 18 when you look on your router and have you got a rev B.
Were you getting the same problem ie the router hanging?

I've got a rev C DSL500 and the 18uk is the latest one for that if you look
on the D-Link website.
Call D-Link tech support.
I was getting the router hanging when attempting to transfer files on MSN
Messenger 6. Only cure was a power off/on reset.

Factory reset sorted it.
The only option I did not set ON this after the reset was the
NAT ALG SIP (video/audio/white board/remote control) check box.
All working fine. audio, video and remote assistance.
