- DLINK DSL 504
- Posted by INTERCEPTOR on September 19th, 2003
I'm having connection problems with a Dlink dsl 504. Every couple of
days the router locks up i.e. the status light either goes out, or
stays on, but doesn't flash as it should.
The only way to reset is unplug the router.
BT say the telephone line is OK. Using a Dlink filter, and the latest
firmware.
The router was fine for the first couple of months. Then i turned it
off for a few days while on holiday. Ever since coming back the router
has played up.
Any ideas would be very welcome.
Thanks,

ago today from Scan Computers two days after installing it the
connection dropped so I reconnected no problem this happened a further
three times that week the next time the connection dropped the router
reset itself to factory default settings !!! . This performance
continued all the second week and the third until Thursday of last
week when the damn thing refused to connect at all no matter what I
did . I contacted D-Link support and they said I had bought a rogue
504 and advised I take it back to Scan which I did last Friday Scan
advised me that they could not do a warranty swap out has the 504 had
to be returned to D-Link in Denmark . After a heated argument with
Scan's tech support moron he finally said we can give you a refund Sir
but not a swap why the FinHell did he not say that in the first place
all I required was shut of the damn thing .
After much thought and reading I bought a second 504 from Scan on
Wednesday and up till now no problems at all , it could be that you
have bought a rogue also !!!!!! .

bit of a pain but it worked for me .

Thanks for that. I have downloaded the upgrade for my router the other
day, and was considering upgrading until i spotted your posting. As
everything is working o.k. i don`t think i will bother now.

I found that using the DNS forwarding option was causing this to happen.
Disabling this feature and making my PC use my ISP DNS servers directly
solved this for me.
After I sorted that problem my DSL-504 has been very stable, it's now been
up for over 3 months without a problem.
