I'm planning to roll out a torrent speed testing torrent in the next
few days. I thought that people might be interested in it.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't a binary file, and one
significantly bigger than 10 mb be more beneficial?
Even 10 MB might be a little on the small side these days if you are
looking for a true reflection of speed.
I may be barking up the wrong technology tree of no relevance here, but
from what I remember from olden times of dial-up modems a .txt file
would download hugely faster than a binary file what with there being
considerable scope for data compression prior to transfer so a
non-compressible (or pre-compressed) file format might be a better option.
Like I said, I am drawing on memories of data transfer of yester-year,
but I would have thought the technology of hardware/software
pre-compressing files before transfer would still be relevant today.
Just my thoughts

Hi Pete,
You replied to "Admin" on 23.08.07 about "Re: Download torrent tester":
Similar thoughts here Pete. I tend to use summat like a *minimum* of 25
Meg for a "short sharp" test.
Your memories are just about spot on. We used to use a range of
test-files, usually the minimum size of same would have been 1 Meg - but
that depended on on what was being tested.
Hmmmm! Perhaps that might raise a few comments

many of us use openoffice as a test, it's free, big (120mb ish) and very
well seeded, if it doesnt sap all your bandwidth within a minute or so, then
somethings wrong!
