I think freeworldialup is the only one offering free calls to standard
landlines (with no charges at all).

It does nothing that yahoo/msn messenger already do with a speaker/mic
set.

Oh really, what landline number does Yahoo/MSN allocate to their users so
that they can reached from a landline?

This service doesn't do that. I.e you can't just "ring" your
mother/mate etc. Please read exactly what it's trying to do.

Well it depends how many calls you are going to do now, and also
depends where you live, since some parts of the world international

oh by the way even after that date, you can use the fwd service a a
landline (you can get a usa landline or 0870 number in uk which will
ring the handset attach to it for you, and you can dial even after
that date 0800 in certain countries, than using calling card make
calls through it. so like having other landline without the rental
cost.

make calls and the only one I already had was MSN Messenger. However,
the latest version does not work with FWD, (they say), so you are asked
to download an older version. When you try to do that you are directed
to the Microsoft site who say its not available........What now, eh??

I have now got X-lite but dialling from my home here in the UK every
number I dial is currently "off-line" according to the voice on the
line. In at least one instance I know this is not the case, what could
be wrong.

You should test you have the software setup correctly first by testing with the
FWD office answerphone by simply dialling 10001. If that works, make sure you
are dialling UK numbers (or your destination) correctly eg. 01234 567 890 has to
be dialled as *441234567890 (the star is important)
Finally, I don't know how much capacity they have - this has proved to be a very
popular offer, it might be that their servers are busy!
