They are cheap, reasonably fast (though they dropped to 12th place last
month in adsl guides speed ranking) offer static IP address as standard
and are reasonably reliable. One of the best things about them is the
fact that they only charge you an activation fee if you leave within the
first twelve months and unlike many providers you are on a one month
contract so you can leave any time you like.
The only problems I have had have been with frequent brief outages and
the fact that it took them almost over a year to sort out the rDNS
problems.
The outages are short enough that the only way I notice them is that I
find my IRC connections have been dropped, at the same time though, SSH
and telnet sessions are not dropped.
The rDNS problem was much more irritating and almost caused me to leave
F2S. When I first started using IRC after getting F2S ADSL installed, I
discovered that they had set up no reverse DNS entries for my account.
Indeed, they hadn't set up rDNS for any of their single IP users.
Multiple IP users had the option to specify their rDNS entries in the
F2S control panel, Single IP users were denied this and F2S had no
procedures in place to create a basic rDNS entry. This misconfiguration,
though minor, did cause problems with IRC servers and some FTP sites.
Many of us spent many hours writing emails and phoning F2S support
trying to get them to sort this problem out and were constantly fobbed
off with "Oh, it will be fixed real soon now". Although I didn't leave
F2S because of it, I know some people who did.
rDNS is a basic configuration setting for any IP address, not providing
it made F2S look incompetent and I know a number of people who still
look down on F2S because of it, even though the problem has now,
finally, been resolved.
Take care,
Mark..........
