I have a BT line but it has not been active for some time. I now wish to
have this line reactivated but only for internet not for telephone use.

How will this work? ie Is it possible to just pay a line rental to BT and
then choose an ISP or can i pay line rental thru an ISP?

Hope this makes sense?

TIA

Yes, you can do either. Not all ISPs will support the latter option.

Yes, but you will get a telephone service on the line. Whether or not you
choose to use it
is your affair of course.

Best way is probably to pay a line rental to BT, by direct debit to cut
the cost. BT Option 1 is the cheapest (Light User Scheme has many
restrictions, not least 'no ADSL'). Then choose an ISP.

Some ISPs do provide a line and also ADSL, but some tend to be a bit
slow about reporting line faults (BT Openreach, or whatever they're
called this week, still do the repairs). You won't save a lot of cash;
ISP rental prices are broadly similar. You may also pay a higher
'installation charge' than just 'going back to BT'.

At least one ISP provides a line with incoming and outgoing calls
barred, except for emergency calls (contrary to what someone else has
stated). That's AAISP; if you choose on price you won't want them, but
if you choose on quality you might.

That's interesting, I didn't know that AA offered a WLR product.

I am currently involved with a national project that uses Pipex ADSL
over BT provisioned lines, with incoming calls only. No 999,
(no dialtone).
